Ella moves away

Ella was playing her favorite sport, basketball, with her best friend Amanda when the doorbell rang. “I’ll get it,” shouted Ella. She rushed to the door, but her mom was already there about to open the door. “Hi,” said a voice from behind the door. It was Amanda’s mom. She came to pick up Amanda. They were having so much fun that they were sad, but then they remembered that they would see each other again at the “Giants” game the next day. When Amanda left, Ella’s mom told Ella the bad news. They had to move to Kansas in a week. Ella was shocked. She couldn’t move away from her best friends and her favorite teacher. She couldn’t go to a different school. Could she?

The next day, Ella got up, put on her “Giants” cap, put on her ‘Giants” jersey, and went to the dining room for breakfast. Then, she realized that it was only 6:00 AM. She had to wait another 5 hours until she could go to the game with Amanda. While she was waiting, she took out her binder from her backpack and some colored pencils and made a “farewell” card for Amanda. She drew a beautiful picture of the two of them holding hands next to all of Amanda’s favorite animals in the world. She also drew a unicorn because Amanda loved those too. When she started writing, she had the idea that once she moved away, they could be pen pals. She took off her hat, put it beside her, and walked over to the kitchen. She got a waffle, put on syrup and blueberries, and started to eat it.

When her mom finally said the three words,”time to go,” Ella was so happy and excited, not for the game, but for Amanda. They went to their dark gray mini van. Ella sat on the red velvet seats. They drove for a half hour before getting to the Giant’s stadium to meet Amanda. They sat in the front row seats waiting for Amanda. Then “ring ring ring.” It was her mom’s phone. When she finished her phone call, she told Ella that Amanda was sick so they wouldn’t be watching with her. Ella was sad. They only met each other on Saturdays, Sundays, and sometimes Fridays.

The next week, Ella and her family boarded the train and sat at a window seat. Ella was upset, very upset. She never even told Amanda that she was moving away. Ella started to silently cry. She then started to get louder. She cried so much that the window was starting to get foggy. When the train stopped, Ella knew that they arrived at Kansas. She remembered that her cousin lived in Kansas, but she still thought it wouldn’t be that good. They got off the train, Ella holding tightly on her mom’s hand, still crying like crazy, but no one seemed to notice. Her cousin, Heather was waiting for her. She tried hard to cheer Ella up but she just couldn’t. It was an impossible job.

When they got to their new house, Ella’s mom told her to explore with Heather. She also told her that she and Heather would live together. They walked all around the house. They went in the kitchen which had fuzzy counters, chairs and a clean dishwasher, a purple sink and the most beautiful carpet also with fuzz. The oven was just any ordinary oven. The purple sink reminded her of Amanda because Amanda’s favorite color was purple. There was also a very mini fridge and on ordinary table. Next, they discovered the bathroom. The toilet was fuzzy and the shower curtains were her favorite color, blue. That was Heather’s favorite color as well. When they finished the bathroom, they moved on to upstairs. There was another bathroom that was the same as the last but this time with pink shower curtains. They walked a bit more and entered a ginormous room. It was the only bedroom. There were five beds for her mom, her aunt, her cousin, her grandma, and her. Ella’s bed was blue with white flowers, Heather’s was a blue with pink flowers, Ella’s mom’s bed was green with rainbow stripes, her aunt’s was all neon orange, and her grandma’s was yellow with red and purple stripes. There was a walk through closet with beautiful clothes. When they were done exploring, they were called for dinner. They ate chicken, her favorite soup made by her grandma, and for dessert her mom made cookies.

The next morning, the girls ate waffles for breakfast until their moms said that it was time for their first day of school. Of course for Heather it wasn’t really the first day of school. They put on their socks, brushed their hair, brushed their teeth, and then walked for a mile to school. When they got there, it started to snow. They stuck together because Ella didn’t know anybody. They bumped into a tall girl. “Hi my name is El-””Get out of my way, you brat,”said the girl. “I’m sorry. What’s your name?,”asked Ella. ”Layla. and I am on my way to class so scat,”said the girl called Layla.” Hey! Don’t talk to my friend that way,” yelled Heather.”Sure princess” said Layla walking away. “Do you know that girl” asked Ella to Heather. “Yeah. She’s the meanest girl in school. The rest of the day went by quickly.

When the girls got home, Ella’s mom made them hot cocoa and cookies. Yup, this wasn’t going to be a good year for Ella or was it? Find out next time.

Bravo Pelin! I should congratulate you. I enjoyed reading your story very much. It grabbed my attention at the very start and I read it through breathlessly. Now I wonder whether it’s going to be a good year for Ella or not. I suppose it won’t be a good year for Ella since she bumped into the meanest girl at the first day of school. This shows bad luck 🙁
    Am I right?
