Pantella

My name is Rosemary, and this may sound like a strange name to you, but rosemary was a very important thing from my mother’s childhood. When she was little, her mother made her amazing dishes like chicken, steak, potatoes, and a lot of times, she used seasonings like thyme and rosemary, but one day, her mom got really sick and had to go to the hospital, and she was there for weeks, so my mom and her three sisters made their mother a get-well present. They took a tray from an old, dusty cabinet, a couple of plates, a pot, and a lamp chop. The girls took the lamp chop and put it in the pot, and boiled it for an hour, and when it was done, they asked their father if he could take them to the hospital to see their mother, so he took them there, and on the way, there was a stand, and it was a donation to help sick people and help them get home to their families, so my mother took out two dollars that she was saving for colored pencils, and she got a box of rosemary. When they went into the hospital, someone who worked there took them to their mom’s room, and she was awake. They gave her the lamb chop, and my mom decided to put some rosemary on it. Their mom loved it, and they spent a while there, but when they left, they were informed that Angeline Madison Leigh (my grandmother) had a heart attack and was dead. Later, my mother went to college and met my dad, Max Morgan. They fell in love and got married, and had a child, and named her Rosemary Thyme Morgan. That was the story of my birth. Anyway, I am a sixth grader at Jackson Academy, a private school near my house. My birthday was yesterday, and I just turned twelve years old, and I am going to tell you a little secret about me, and it happened just last year when I was in fifth grade.pantella

My mom dropped me off at Lincoln Elementary for school. I went to the courtyard and started to look for my friends, when I saw Maddie. Her name is Madison, but I call her Maddie. She is my best friend in the whole world, and I knew her since kindergarten. I walked up to her, and she was on the monkey bars. “Hi Maddie,” I said. “Rosemary!” She nearly fell off the monkey bars. A couple of seconds after that, we were walking around the playground to the basketball courts, and we found a ball on the ground. We tarted playing a game of HORSE, but Maddie is so good at that game. I got H-O-R-S, and she got nothing. She is awesome at basketball. Right as Maddie finally got an H, the bell rang. School was about to start, so we ran to the line and picked up our backpacks right as Mrs. Smith came. She took us into room 16. First, we had math warm-ups, and as usual, I had no trouble whatsoever, but Maddie on the other hand couldn’t do 7,892 divided by 6, so I helped her, but sometimes, she can be unteachable, so the smarty pants of our class gave her the answer, and by that, I mean Riley Brown. She gets an A+ in everything. That means math, social studies, science, language arts, everything. A lot of people are jealous of her. We corrected it as a class, and I may not be Ms. Perfect, but I do get A’s in everything, except a couple of B’s. I got one problem wrong. I was supposed to find the area of a 4 by 4 square, but instead, I read the directions wrong, and I did the perimeter. That was, like one of the only ones that Maddie got right. After that, Mrs. Smith handed out a spelling test.

This is what mine looked like: It’s perfect right? NO! I spelled

1. jealouss everything wrong! It’s okay though,

2. unforgivabble I mean I only get good grades in

3. benefitted Notes> math. That’s what I expect, and

4. California that’s what my parents expect.

5. right

6. careles

7. laptop

8. exess

This is what Riley’s looked like:

1. jealous It’s perfect right? YES!

2. unforgivable

3. benefited

4. California Why is she so good at

5. right everything? Ugh!!

6. careless

7. laptop

8. excess

Don’t worry. Mine was still better than Maddie’s. If you realized that it was kind of mean how I treat Maddie, look back at number one on my spelling test. It says, or should say jealous. Maddie is so good at basketball, soccer, and football, practically any sport. It makes me feel bad, and it doesn’t help that she’s starting to become friends with Riley. Riley and I used to be friends in kindergarten, but then Sadie made Riley her friend, and I don’t want to lose another friend. Plus, after all these years, she’s changed a lot, and became Ms. Perfect. It’s okay though, I don’t care too much anymore.

Mrs. Smith dismissed us for recess, and I got my snack. Fruit snacks. My mom wants me to be healthy and happy, so she gives me fruit snacks. They are really good. While I was at the snack tables, I met this really nice girl named Amy. She was so cool. She said she had 7 brothers and 6 sisters. She also said she was the youngest out of all 14 kids. Her oldest sister just turned 36. She told me that she had just moved in from Seattle, Washington, because her house wasn’t very big there. There had to be 7 kids in every room, and her parents slept in the living room, until they just couldn’t do it, so the family moved away. Pretty soon, the bell rang, and we lined up for class. Mrs. Smith took us to class, but not Amy, she was in the other class, Mr. McDonald is a very nice teacher. If you spelled something wrong, but you got the right answer, he just takes away half a point from it.

When we got to class, Mrs. Smith had us cut a paper in the shape of a tree, and color, design, and draw it, to celebrate Christmas, except some people who didn’t celebrate Christmas made a new years thing, and people who celebrated Hanukah made a Hanukah thing, but I didn’t know what those things were, because I was so addicted to the coloring, and my tree looked pretty weird. While I added a star to the top of my tree, I heard Riley and Maddie talking about recess. “That was so fun! Do you want to play again at lunch?” “Yeah!” It’s okay though, I mean I have Amy, right? After the trees, we went down to the carpet for social studies. “The Decloration of independence…,” said Mrs. Smith. Of course, Riley was listening. Perfect time to talk to Maddie. “Maddie, do you want to play with me at lunch?” “Sorry, I’m playing with Riley.” So she was choosing her over me. After social studies we went to lunch. I sat right next to Amy, and Maddie didn’t come next to me. I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but what I didn’t know was that Amy is highly allergic to peanuts. She had to go to the office and straight home. Oops! At recess I had nobody to play with or talk to, so I basically spied on Madison. She was playing 4 square with Riley, Sadie, and Layla. They had room for more players, but I didn’t join them.

After lunch, Mrs. Smith dismissed us, because it was a Wednesday, and on Wednesdays, I walk home, like, by myself, which I really needed. I started on my way, and turned left, right, right, another left, whatever. But I wasn’t paying attention, so when I looked up, I was in a forest. I saw a sign nailed onto a tree. “Turn left,” it said. I turned left and kept walking, when I saw a sparkle fly over me. That startled me. I looked around, no more sparkles, so I kept walking, and I saw another sparkle flying around me, but then I looked up, and I saw beehives and bird houses filled with sparkles. One of them came right to my eyes, and I examined it, but it looked like… a fairy. A fairy! I kept looking up at fairies holding little tiny pots. Then, as I was watching, it started to rain, and even though I was sopping wet, the fairies had little leaf umbrellas to keep them safe, but I saw a couple on the ground because the rain hurt them. I took a leaf and put it on the fairies on the ground. One of them was a yellow sparkle, and it was bigger than the other pink sparkles. It was under a leaf I put on it, when all of the other fairies flew around me and put up an arrow showing me where to go. I was confused, so I talked to myself. “Why?”

One fairy started squeaking, and then another fairy sprinkled pixie dust over my head, and I was able to make out words from the fairies! “Because you helped save our queen, so we want to help you. Turn right,” was the voice that came from one of the sparkles.

I did what the fairies told me and turned left, when I heard some giggling coming from the trees above me. I looked up, but nothing was there, so I kept walking. Another giggle. This time I turned my head as quick as I could, and I saw a pointy hat from behind a branch, but just for a split second. I looked down, and then, it hit me, literally, a rock came to my head. Ow! More giggles. I looked up and saw at least 5 gnomes. “Why did you do that,” I asked. “Hey! You came to our side of the forest, we can do what we would like to do to you,” the gruff voice came from one of the gnomes. They hopped off of the branch. “What can you possibly do to me,” I asked. “I am so much bigger, and stronger than you guys put together.” “She has a point,” one of them whispered to the other. “That’s true,” said another, and two others agreed with those two gnomes. The gnome in the middle that seemed to be the “boss” was the only one who said, “YOU GUYS ARE SO WEAK!! JUST DO WHAT I SAY!!” I nervously rocked back and forth on my feet, when I realized I could escape them while they were arguing.

I kept walking, and it started to snow, there was ice everywhere, and it looked dangerous. There was a sign that said “Turn back! You will get caught” next to another one that said “Beware of Pantella!” But I kept going, I had to find a way home or my parents would be worried sick. I bumped into a wall of ice, and a door closed behind me. There was a creature in front of me. It must have be the pantella. I turned to the door, but there was a sign that said “No turning back now. I warned you!” I turned back at the pantella biting my nails. I do that when I’m scared. Then, it started to talk. “How’s Amy?” “What,” I asked really quietly. “How’s Amy? Riley? Madison?” “Um…” “I asked you a question,” he said. “Amy just got an allergic reaction to-” “Peanut butter,” he finished my sentence. “How? Never mind. Riley and Maddie became friends and I am not-” “Happy about it,” he finished again. “How do you know about all of this?” “I know everything, Rosemary. Would you like to see how your family and friends are doing?” I nodded. He took a crystal ball and took it to me. Amy appeared. She was at the hospital having a shot. Then she disappeared and Maddie came up. She was studying with Riley. Of course. Then, my parents came up. They were looking in my bed and at school, and calling the police. Uh oh. “You know,” I said. “You are really nice. Why does it say beware outside?” “Ah. You haven’t left yet. You’ll find out very soon,” he said. He started to grow wings, and his tail started to shoot out ice monsters. Two doors that led to closets opened up and dead people lied everywhere behind them. “NO!!” “Yes,” he said. I didn’t want to die, so I ran to the door, but it was locked. The ice monsters were tiny but painful. They nearly bit my foot off. Then, I decided to try fighting back at them. I was bigger than them. So I started stomping on every snow monster that I got to. After a while there was none left. The pantella disappeared. It lost power when it’s snow monsters died. “I want to go home! I shouted kicking the walls. It’s not like anybody lived there anymore. Then, I appeared in my room, and my parents walked in. “There you are! We were worried sick,” my mom said. “I missed you too guys. I got lost!” Then I heard a knock on the door. It was Maddie and Riley! Outside there was party with balloons and a cake. Amy was there too. “What’s going on?” “Rosemary, Riley is tutoring me, and she became my friend, but she told me she wants to be friends with you and Amy, so this is your get-together party.” “Thanks. Of course we can all be friends.

And we all lived Happily Ever After

THE END
