Roma

This picture is from the top of the Spanish steps in Rome. I have been here for a week and everything is beautiful. In my class, we spend three days on excursions to different places in the area, and two days in class learning about the engineering principles behind the old Roman architecture. The professor is really nice and the views are amazing. The first few days, we explored Rome with the other students. On Tuesday we went on a bus tour of Rome, Wednesday we went to the Capitoline museum, and on Friday we went to Santa Marinella (a beach town an hour away by train). This week we will go to the Colosseum and a few other places. On the fourth week we will go to Pisa, Florence, Vinci, and maybe Venice.

Our classes are held in the American University of Rome, which is about a 20 minute walk from the apartments. Unfortunately, the walk is up a lot of stairs. There is a tram just outside that takes you to the center of the city, which we have been using a lot to get around. We got a card that gives access to free public transportation for the time that we are here. We are also being housed with a different UCSD program (Renaissance in Rome), so there are about 45 people in total here from UCSD. In my program, there are 15 people so we have all been doing everything as a group.
